Go Bag For Your Dog

Go Bag For Your Dog

March is National Severe Weather Preparedness Month. No matter where you live, you could be hit with severe weather. I live in Florida, so from June to November I pay attention to storms coming off the coast of Africa which could become hurricanes. Before moving to Florida, I lived in North Central Texas which is part of tornado alley. You might have to deal with flooding or wildfires. I am also a full time RV'er now, so I know I have to have a Go Bag prepared for myself. Until recently, I really hadn't given much thought to having a...

Keep Your Doggy Safe During The Holidays

Keep Your Doggy Safe During The Holidays

Many of you know my Belle was born blind. She was born with no retinas, so we have always been more vigilant about her. The holidays have always presented a special challenge. Our mantra to guests in our home has always been "watch out for Belle because she cannot watch out for you". This has been a kind of a challenge for people not used to being around her because of her coloring. She is a chocolate Yorkie so she blended right in with our brown blend carpet. Dog People Are The Best People

In my opinion, dog people are the best people. It has been my experience that people who love dogs tend to be very caring people. The dog people I know tend to be very friendly, open to new people and experiences, especially if their dog is by their side. They will introduce themselves and are more than happy to tell you all about their doggy. These stops to talk about our dogs have led to some...

Do Your Dogs Experience Emotion?

Do Your Dogs Experience Emotion?

I recently stated here that Abbie was in her terrible two's. I read an article this morning which made me realize I might have been more right than I thought at the time. I found this article in Modern Dog Magazine. In this article, "Which Emotions Do Dogs Actually Experience?", by Stanley Coren, the author talks about our dogs developing the emotions we as humans develop. He states dogs stop developing the same emotions at about the same place we are when we are about 2 1/2 years old. In his article, Stanley Coren, says dogs develop emotionally more quickly than...

Healthy People Food

Healthy People Food

My dogs would love it if I fed them people food. I really struggle with this from time to time. I have family members who have tried to sneak them food under the table. Every now and again I break down and give them bites of chicken or other meats I did not eat from my plate. I try really hard to make sure there are no seasonings on these bites of meat when I do.  At one time, I fed my dogs frozen green beans I had thawed. They really seemed to like these, so I am not sure...
